I've beaten the game many times and feel that having a 'Raven' player who concentrates on building ravens and taking out hatcheries/zerg production facilities is the best way to go about things. Makes the enemy significantly 'weaker'.

Are YOU a Raven player? I generally go for the standard Big Bertha/Photon Cannon defense. They really synergize well because cannons are mineral-heavy and Berthas are gas-heavy. You can do either victory option, but the Rescue Beacon is nice because minerals are so much easier to get than gas, especially later in the game, so you can get even more Berthas.

Haha, I LOVE being the 'Raven' player. So fun! Cause you don't have to concentrate on defence (since that is what the other players are doing) and just go around blowing stuff up. Of course destroying zerg facilities gets you quite a bit of minerals and gas too; so I often end up being the one to build Transport as well.
Never tried the Big Bertha/Photon Cannon combo, but it surely makes good sense. Will try that some time.
Last game I played we had 5 Big Berthas; hahaha; and lots of missile turrets, plus around 15 ravens. Was very easy.
